Some young people don’t wait for permission to lead — they simply start. DMAP exists to spotlight those students and amplify their impact. DMAP recognizes and rewards youth who are making positive differences in the lives of others. We take that further: we elevate young changemakers, give them a platform, and invest in their ideas.
tudents in grades 9–12 who demonstrate courage, creativity, initiative, and community impact are nominated for cash awards. Award recipients are invited to the annual Difference Maker Summit — a launchpad for collaboration, innovation, and real world change.
DMAP isn’t just an award. It’s a catalyst.
Applications will open October 1st each year with a deadline of February 1st the following year. All applications will be reviewed by the foundation’s selection committee, with winners announced annually on April 1st. Cash awards for the annual funding cycle will range from $500-$1,000.
Grant recipients will be invited to participate in the Difference Makers Summit hosted by the foundation annually in Houston. The half-day summit will bring the Difference Maker Award winners together to celebrate their contributions, discuss community needs, identify ideas for collaborative projects, and build a network of student leaders who continue making a difference.
DMAP will also award grants to support activities and initiatives formed from the collaboration of these students.
ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS
- Public and private school students may participate and must be within the Houston Independent School District boundaries.
- Student must be a permanent, legal resident of the United States with a Social Security number or valid tax identification number.
- Student must be enrolled in grades 9-12 in good standing and have no major disciplinary sanctions.
- Student must be nominated by their teachers and/or school administration.
- Student demonstrates good character qualities such as courage, compassion, commitment, generosity, perseverance and high moral purpose.
- Student has accomplished something with inspirational value that could inspire others to make a difference.
- Parental consent is required for all nominees under age 18 years of age.
